Kokalyansko Hanche is a small family restaurant and our only business. We had a bakery by the lake, but change of ownership and unaffordable rent made us look for an alternative. The restaurant was out of operation, but we liked the location, decided to fix it and start offering the food we knew how to cook. None of us had worked in a restaurant before, none of us had any restaurant experience dealing with  and here we are running the restaurant for nearly 30 years.

For a small road restaurant Kokalyansko Hanche or Hancheto as everybody calls it has quire a history. It opensback in 1916. It survived wars, political regimes, multiple ownership changes, and it is fascinating that on this location there has been a restaurant for more than a century.

Time flies. There were hard times and lots of challenges, but we have managed through the years. Many things changed, but time proved that there is still space for Traditional Bulgarian cuisine. We have tried offering fancy salads and exotic meats, but customers kept asking for traditional  dishes, barbeque, soups, and even Bulgarian desserts were selling better.  So we embarked on a sample traditional menu and seasonal cooking.

Hancheto has always been and will remain an affordable restaurant. We believe that food should be priced accordingly. We don’t sell ambience and food decoration, nor can we brag with fancy cuisine. What we offer is traditional food.

It is harder and harder to source good, quality products at reasonable prices, but we are trying and have reliable suppliers for meats, diary, and even groceries. You are warmly welcome for lunch or dinner, with your family, colleagues, or friends throughout the week, 365 days a year
